Helping families in Prince George’s County let go while preserving memories

A pink World of Barbie box sits on a shelf waiting to be found. When a group of siblings in Historic Greenbelt, Maryland, reached out to Orion’s Attic, they faced the bittersweet challenge of cleaning out their childhood home. After more than 65 years in the same house, their parents had filled it with vintage toys, travel mementos, and treasures from around the world.

The family wanted peace of mind. It needed to find a trusted team who could handle the work with care. This meant moving items along to people who would appreciate them — making it easier to let go. That’s where Orion’s Attic stepped in.

Check out our Orion’s Attic TV YouTube video here that features interviews with the client and shows our estate liquidation and home cleanout process in action. It includes great advice and insight from the client, too.

A house filled with dolls, toys, and memories

Walking into the Greenbelt home felt like stepping into a toy museum. Vintage dolls, Barbie and Ken, Homer and Bart Simpson, Shirley Temple, Charlie Brown, even antique books and trunks — every room told a story.

For our team, one of the most rewarding parts of this work is serving as “foster parents” for incredible collections, even if only for a short time. We carefully packed each piece, preparing some for auction and others for storage, where out-of-state family members would retrieve them later.

Balancing what to keep and what to let go

One of the hardest parts of any estate cleanout is deciding what to hold on to. The homeowners’ daughter, Leerin, shared a valuable piece of advice:

“You don’t have to keep everything. Do you really need the thing itself, or would a photo of it preserve the memory just as well?”

At Orion’s Attic, we help families make those choices. We deliver the best items to the right local or national auction house. Our Greenbelt estate liquidation services also include donating as many other items as possible to selected charities, full moving services for items families are keeping,  and trash hauling. (Our jobs produce lower landfill fees than our competitors because our environmental ethics are at the heart of what we do.)

Why families in Prince George’s County hire Orion’s Attic

Estate cleanouts are never easy. They’re filled with emotions and memories. Our job is to bring compassion, efficiency, and professionalism to every home. From College Park and Greenbelt to Hyattsville and beyond, we help families across Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties with:

  • Estate liquidation and downsizing

  • Auction services and direct sales for valuable collections
  • Safe moving services

This Greenbelt project reminded us why we do what we do. We help families during difficult transitions while honoring the lives that filled these homes.

For Leerin and her siblings, we brought closure to a painful time.

“It’s a relief. It’s also bittersweet because now the process is more towards completion so that’s always hard with an estate. But I’m feeling pretty good and it’s a relief not to have done all this and had it been dragged on. It’s definitely amazing to see a house that was full of stuff this morning to be completely emptied out. You guys did a great job.”
