NAPO Washington DC Metro Chapter Names Orion’s Attic Business Partner of the Year

The NAPO Washington DC Metro Chapter of the National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals (NAPO-WDC) has named Orion’s Attic as the Co-Business Partner of the Year, sharing the honor with BP Samara Goodman of Samara Interiors.

“You are an incredible asset to our chapter as noted repeatedly during the nomination process,” NAPO-WDC Chapter Awards Coordinator Patti Howell wrote Orion’s Attic co-owner Chris Lancette when she broke the news from the professional organizers’ trade group. NAPO-WDC is dedicated to supporting “evaluation, decision-making, and action around objects, spaces, and data, helping clients achieve desired outcomes regarding function, order, and clarity.”

Orion’s Attic often works in tandem with professional organizers on large-scale projects. The organizers help clients determine which of their beloved household objects and collectibles they want to keep and which they are ready to let go. These are often projects that are part of a major downsizing, senior move, or estate liquidation effort. The estate liquidation company sometimes assists NAPO Washington DC Metro Chapter members by providing the labor required for elderly clients to be able to review everything in their homes. Orion’s Attic comes in on other projects after an organizer’s work is done and works to sell, donate, and properly dispose of everything the client isn’t keeping.

NAPO Washington DC Metro Chapter clients appreciate the trusted referrals, enabling organizers to provide value-added service. More often than not, professional organizers and their clients simply need advice on the value of various antiques, collectibles, and household items.  Orion’s Attic then provides insight into what people should do with the items in question even when there are no business opportunities there. Lancette says that the company, co-owned by spouse Won-ok Kim, is always happy to field such inquiries as small ways of repaying NAPO-WDC for its kindness.

Lancette credits NAPO-WDC for playing a significant role in the company’s growth through its joint projects and its referrals for estate liquidation, estate buyout and home cleanout services. Not to mention the piles of high-end antiques, collectibles, and Mid-century modern furniture that the company has purchased for the purpose of reselling.

“The NAPO-WDC Business Partner program is responsible for a lot of our success,” he said of the initiative that gives companies affiliated with the organizing industry a chance to serve and network with professional organizers. “We jump at every chance we get to be of use to organizers and their clients so that we can try to do as much for them as they do for us.”

The appreciation is clearly mutual.

“Chris regularly shares his insightful experiences to help us better educate our clients on the potential value of their items,” one organizer wrote during the nomination process. “He is quick to answer inquiries and offer helpful suggestions. From providing tours of his home to sharing timely and relevant blog posts, Chris is a valued asset to our chapter.”
