There's something evocative about this drum. Despite not making a sound when we first saw it, the decorative drum cover called out to us -- igniting our imagination: Where did it come from? What's the story the painting tells and how many generations has it been told to? Caress the hide and the horse hair on the sides and you can almost hear the faint echo of a Native American elder passing on the history. We have confirmed it's not an antique but likely came from a Native American reservation, where the hands that made it may trace their roots back to the origin of North America itself.
The drum is 18 inches wide and the straps hang about another 10 inches. The horse hair -- if that's what it is -- hangs about 11 inches. The drum stick is 23.5 inches long and the stone at end is about 4 inches wide.
